The Rating Process

The following information describes the method we use to arrive at an overall rating for each restaurant.  Each diner fills out a rating form with the information requested below.  The rating information is combined and averaged to develop category ratings for food, service, facilities, and price.  The overall rating for the restaurant is determined from a weighted average of the four categories. 

The Rating Form

Each rating includes a short description of the restaurant, it's location, phone number, date and time of visit, number in party, whether reservations are accepted or required, dining style (casual, sit down, cafeteria, etc.) and a narrative of any opinions we may have formed during our vist.  If available we may also include a picture of the restaurant.  Our rating system consists of assigning a subjective numerical value from 1 to 10 to various elements within four key categories of interest, where 1 is the worst and 10 is the best.

The overall rating for a restaurant is determined from the weighted average of the category averages for all participants based on the following equation:
 
Overall Rating = 50% Food + 20% Service + 15% Facilities + 15% Price
 
The overall rating is slanted toward the food category, since we believe it to be the most important aspect of a dinning experience.
